OSMANTHUS BURKWOODII
Osmanthus Ã- burkwoodii is an elegant, medium-sized evergreen shrub, appreciated for its intensely scented flowering and its shiny, compact foliage. It is a natural hybrid between Osmanthus decorus and Osmanthus delavayi, selected specifically to combine the rusticity and orderly shape of the former with the fragrance and finesse of the latter. The foliage is one of the most appreciated ornamental elements: the leaves, ovate, leathery and of a bright dark green, form a compact, dense mass, giving the plant a tidy appearance even without regular pruning. The habit is rounded and well branched, with slow growth and a balanced structure. In early spring, Osmanthus Ã- burkwoodii is covered with small white flowers, gathered in axillary clusters. Although the flowers are small, their abundance and above all their intense scent – sweet, penetrating, similar to jasmine or honey – make it one of the most loved flowering shrubs for ornamental gardens, scented hedges and mixed borders. This variety reaches a height of between 2 and 3 meters in adulthood, with a proportionate width. It is perfect both as an isolated specimen and for the creation of formal hedges, thanks to the ease with which it can be shaped and kept in shape. Tolerant to pruning, it also responds well to containment and shaping interventions. Osmanthus Ã- burkwoodii prefers sunny or semi-shaded positions and adapts to different types of soil, as long as they are well drained. It is a robust plant, resistant to cold and wind, and also well suited to urban environments, thanks to its good tolerance to air pollution. Once well established, it tolerates even short periods of drought. For its combination of elegance, compact structure and fragrant flowering, Osmanthus Ã- burkwoodii is an excellent choice for those who want a refined, long-lasting and easy-to-manage evergreen, capable of offering interest for much of the year.
