MAGNOLIA SUSAN
Magnolia ‘Susan’ is a medium-small deciduous magnolia, belonging to the famous ‘Little Girl’ series developed to obtain compact plants, with abundant and later flowering than other varieties. Thanks to its compact growth habit and rich spring flowering, this variety is particularly suitable for small gardens, urban spaces or for growing in pots. The flowering of Magnolia ‘Susan’ is one of its most distinctive features. The flowers, which bloom in late April ⤔ often avoiding damage from late frosts ⤔ are elongated, tulip-shaped, and gradually open into elegant cups. The color is intense: a purple red on the outside that fades into a lighter pink on the inside of the petals, creating a refined and very decorative chromatic effect. The flowers also emit a delicate scent, which further enriches the ornamental value of the plant. The foliage is medium green, slightly shiny, oval in shape and with a smooth edge. The leaves develop immediately after flowering, giving the plant a fresh and compact appearance throughout the growing season. In autumn they take on yellow tones before falling, offering an additional touch of colour. Magnolia ‘Susan’ has a slow and orderly growth, with a maximum height of about 2.5-3.5 metres, maintaining a bushy and well-branched profile. It is a rustic plant, resistant to cold and suitable for temperate climates. It prefers fresh, well-drained, acidic soils, and develops best in sunny or lightly shaded positions. Once established, it tolerates short periods of drought, but benefits from regular irrigation in the warmer periods. Due to its beauty, small size and spectacular flowering, Magnolia ‘Susan’ is an ideal choice for those who want an explosion of color in spring, even in limited spaces.
