EUONYMUS ELEGANTISSIMUS AUREUS

Plant code: EUO-AUR

Compact and ornamental evergreen, Euonymus japonicus ‘Elegantissimus Aureus’ is a variegated foliage cultivar of the E. japonicus species, native to the Far East. It has an erect shrubby habit, with thick and well-branched vegetation, which lends itself both to free cultivation and to the formation of geometric hedges or regular borders.
The main valuable element is the persistent foliage: the leaves are ovate, leathery, with slightly serrated edges and a bright color, dark green in the center and golden yellow on the edges. This stable variegation gives brightness to the plant throughout the year and enhances its ornamental interest even in the winter months. The flowering, of little decorative value, occurs between late spring and early summer, with small yellowish-green flowers, sometimes followed by fruit capsules.
It adapts well to sunny or semi-shaded exposures, tolerating windy and saline conditions, and is resistant to urban pollution. It prefers fresh but well-drained soils and responds very well to pruning, which stimulates its thickening and allows good control of the shape. It has a good rusticity, although it benefits from sheltered positions in the coldest climates.
The high adaptability makes ‘Elegantissimus Aureus’ ideal for the creation of low or medium hedges, evergreen borders, decorative spots or for growing in pots, where it offers a continuous decorative value with limited maintenance.
