BUDDLEJA DAVIDII – FIORE ROSA

Plant code: BUD-ROSA

Buddleja is an evergreen shrub with slightly arching branches, known for its fast growth and compact, resilient structure, capable of withstanding even harsh temperatures. Its flowers release a sweet fragrance reminiscent of honey and vanilla, attracting many butterflies — hence its common name, “butterfly bush.”

Originally from China, Buddleja was introduced to Europe in 1893 and quickly spread thanks to its remarkable adaptability to various soil types, with a preference for calcareous ones. This shrub can grow over two meters tall and develops rapidly. The ideal planting time is in autumn. It requires little maintenance, making it a low-demand plant; however, it is essential that it is planted in well-drained soil where water doesn’t stagnate, and in a sunny position. Buddleja enjoys watering especially during flowering, but suffers from stagnant moisture, particularly in colder months.

It is a deciduous species, highly resistant and generous in blooming. Its leaves are lance-shaped, medium to dark green, with a silvery underside that gives the plant a slightly shimmering appearance. With proper care, it takes on a rounded shape with arching branches. Flowering occurs on new branches from summer onwards, producing intensely fragrant blooms.
